Welcome to the Local Development Catalyst Network Homepage!
Local Development Catalyst Network, LDCN, is an innovative community based 501 (c)(3) non profit that works to foster sustainable community development in Mozambique. In 2010, Zachary Lager, founder and executive director of LDCN, moved to the Sofala Province of Mozambique in order to experience and learn from the Mozambican culture while at the same time giving back to his local Mozambican host community through his volunteer work in a child aid program. However, what Zachary recognized during his time as a volunteer was that there was a strong disconnect between local African needs and the mainstream development responses to those needs. Resources and knowledge were not reaching the people that needed it most; local people were becoming dependent on development aid; and environmental sustainability was an afterthought of most development programs. As a result of these realizations and in response to local African needs, Zachary started LDCN in the spring of 2011.
